Sunday 6th May 2018
Departing from Up Holland we drive to Manchester Airport for the Mid-day Ryan Air Flight to Rome. On arrival we will take a coach to Passignano sul Trasimeno on Lake Trassamino in Umbria, to our hotel where we will be staying for 5 nights on a Dinner bed and breakfast basis at the 3* Lido Hotel. After a chance to rest and freshen up we will take a short orientation walk along the promenade.
Monday 7th May 2018
Today is free to explore the area surrounding the Hotel. Located on the lake and the town of Passignano sul Trasimeno . The lake is located mid-way between Rome and Florence and is a popular local resort. The lake is unusual as it has no out-flow, similar to the dead sea. It is also the region where the Carthaginian General Hannibal won a convincing victory over the Roman Legions. We will be able to offer a lake cruise today and visit the small island of Maggiore, which is the only inhabited island on the lake.

Departing hotel by coach we will head for Assisi, where we will have plenty of time to look around and to see Giotto’s famous St Francis frescoes in the Basilica. In the mid-afternoon we will head to Orvieto. We will visit the Cathedral, regarded as one of the finest Romanesque buildings in Italy, in which are found the Signorelli and Fra Angelico frescoes of the Last Judgement. After lunch we will travel the short distance to Decugnano dei Barbi a popular vineyard specialising in regional Red wine and Prosecco. There will be an opportunity to taste the wine.

Today we drive north to Siena, one of Italy’s most spectacular cities. The Palio is a large square leading to the main Palazzo Publico, scene of the famous horse races each year with riders from each parish of the city competing. The city has many monuments and reminders of its former glory and a visit to the Cathedral is a must. Later we continue to Montepulciano, a medieval and renaissance hill town in the province of Siena in southern Tuscany. It sits high on a 605-metre limestone ridge. Montepulciano is a major producer of food and drink. Renowned for its pork, cheese, “pici” pasta, lentils, and honey, it is known world-wide for its wine. Connoisseurs consider its Vino Nobile, In the afternoon we will visit a nearby vineyard for a tour and tasting.
Friday 11 th May 2018
Transfer to Rome. We will initially drive into the City and take a coach tour taking in the highlights . If time permits we will have some free time to take lunch and shop. From here we continue to Rome Fiumicio Airport for our Jet2 return flight back to Manchester Airport. A coach will be waiting to transfer us back to Up Holland.
