After making our pick up from Washway Farm we drive to Cairnryan . En route we will stop for lunch at Threave Estate National Trust for Scotland. Threave Garden is in fact a series of spectacular gardens created over the years by students of the Trust’s School of Heritage Gardening. Take time to explore the rock garden, patio garden, secret garden, water features, heathers, conifers and herbaceous perennials. There is also the Terrace Café. We will catch the mid-afternoon ferry.
The ferry is very well equipped with bars, restaurant etc. The journey takes about 2 hours and on arrival in Belfast we drive about 10 miles to our hotel, the 4 star Dunadry Country Club in Co. Antrim. This converted linen mill is ideally located near the town of Antrim and central for all of our excursions. There is a large indoor swimming pool and gymnasium. Bedrooms have all of the usual ensuite amenities with hairdryer, TV and Tea/coffee making facilities. We shall stay here for 4 nights on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.

After breakfast we head north and pick up the coastal route where we drive to the small picturesque village of Cushendun designed by Clough Williams-Ellis who was famous of course for Portmeirion in North Wales.
As we continue along this spectacular coastline we stop at the Giants Causeway National Trust, now a world heritage site, this basalt plateau with its unusual polygonal stacks is a phenomenon brought about by a volcanic eruption 60 million years ago. A good pair of walking shoes is recommended, as the causeway is a good 1 mile round trip walk from the coach park. There is a café here where lunch can be purchased, after which we continue to the town of Bushmills and its famous Whiskey distillery.
People wishing to tour the distillery may do so (entrance not included), otherwise the town is close by for those who prefer .From here we return to the hotel in the late afternoon.

East today to Mount Stewart House and gardens NT situated on Strangford Lough. This is said to be the most spectacular N.T. property in Northern Ireland. It has been the home of the Londonderry family since the early 18th century and was the home to Lord Castlereagh, who entertained many famous political figures at the house. The gardens are famous for the unrivalled collection of unusual and rare plants, which thrive on the mild climate of the region.
Most of the day will be spent here but if time allows we shall continue along the Lough and visit either Castle Ward or Rowallane Gardens NT, after which we shall return to the hotel in good time before the evening meal.
