The tunnel is still there which leads onto the Olympic track. It is here that the Olympic flame begins its journey in the ruins of the temple of Hera where it is lit by the rays of the sun.
The games were banned in 388A.D. and the site was forgotten and buried in silt. 15 centuries later the site was excavated and the games were re-born in 1896.
